What Happens If a Takedown Fails?
A takedown is marked as Failed when all automatic retry attempts are exhausted without a successful submission.
Common Reasons for Failure
- The platform's submission form or API changed.
- The infringing URL returned a 404 before submission completed.
- Rate limits were hit (especially for high volumes).
- The platform rejected the notice (e.g., counter-notice already filed).
What You Can Do
- Retry manually — click Retry in your dashboard. DMCA Bot will attempt resubmission.
- File manually — use the Export function to download the infringement details and file a notice directly via Google's copyright removal tool or Bing's content removal form.
- Contact support — reach out via the contact form and we will investigate the failure.
When Should I Consult a Lawyer?
If a takedown fails repeatedly because the infringer keeps re-uploading, or if a counter-notice is filed in bad faith, you may need to take legal action (e.g., a court injunction). We recommend consulting a copyright attorney in these cases.
